Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus announced this Sunday that he will leave the command of Turkish club Fenerbahçe, after failing to win the country’s championship this season.
“As of today, I am no longer Fenerbahçe’s coach”, he declared in a press conference after his team’s victory in the Turkish Cup final against Basaksehir (2-0).
The 68-year-old coach, three times Portuguese champion with Benfica and who took the Flamengo to the 2019 Copa Libertadores title, he at least managed to give Fenerbahçe their first trophy in nine years.
However, the Istanbul club, second in the Süper Lig behind Galatasaray, have not won the Turkish league since 2014, an eternity for their fans.
Upon arriving at the club at the start of the season, Jorge Jesus was praised by the local press and very well received by the public, but in recent months some of his decisions have been heavily criticized.
