Nerea Arruti-Amalur Arbelaitz and Julen Gabirondo-Beñat Tellería were proclaimed champions of the Euskal Pentatloia de Parejas 2023 in the female and male category respectively after being the best in the tests that were held in the Tolosa bullring this Sunday, June 11.

In the women’s category final the participants had to pass five tests: 20 lifts with the 63-kilo circular stone, 2 places dragging the 250-kilo stone, 6 places with the 35-kilo txingas, the aizkolaris test (2 45-ounce logs) and to finish two kilometers running (20 laps Bullring).

Errekondo and Fernández de Barrena were the best in the harri-jasotzailes test (stone lifters) and they achieved a small advantage over Arruti and Arbelaitz. Instead, Orbe and Martínez lost a lot of time.

After, in the stone drag, he went up the Arruti-Arbelaitz couple and was in the lead with 44 seconds of rent over Errekondo-Fernández de Barrena. Orbe-Martínez needed 24 seconds more than the pair that was in second position at the time.

In the first batch, Gabirondo and Telleria were the best in the harri-jasotzailes test. Therefore, they faced the stone dragging test with an advantage. Later, in second position, Zelai IV and Zelai V began to work. The third to face the second test were Zaldua and Mugertza III.

In the second batch, Izeta VI and Olaizola took the lead after completing the harri-jasotzailes test. Irazabal and Amade needed 58 more seconds, while Kañamares III and Otaegi needed 45 more seconds than the second-placed pair.

Izeta and Olaizola had the reference of the couple that prevailed in the first round, and in the lifting of the stone they almost traced the times. However, the duet that led the second batch he needed 23 seconds more than those of the first to complete the stone drag test.

After that heit was the turn of the aizkolaris test. It was then that Izeta VI and Olaizola accelerated. Thus, after passing the first three tests, Izeta and Olaizola improved the time of Gabirondo and Telleria by 5 seconds. Irazabal and Amade began the final test with a disadvantage of 1 minute and 12 seconds over the couple that led the batch; Kañamares III and Otaegi did it with a disadvantage of 5 minutes and 25 seconds.

Seen what’s seen, the victory was between the winners of the first batch and the duet that led the second batch. There was emotion until the end, but Izeta VI and Olaizola could not beat the mark of the winners of the previous round. Therefore, Gabirondo and Telleria were proclaimed champions. Izeta VI and Olaizola finished second in the general classification, 19 seconds behind the winners and the couple Irazabal-Amade was third at 2 minutes and 18 seconds.

Zelai IV-Zelai V were fourth (+3’12”), Zaldua and Mugertza III fifth (+4’08”) and sixth place went to Kañamares III and Otaegi (+7’07”).
