Verona beats Spezia in the playoffs and avoids relegation in the Italian

Hellas Verona overcame Spezia this Sunday afternoon, by 3-1, at the Mapei Stadium, and got rid of relegation to the second division of the Italian Championship. The game was valid for a playoff to know who would remain in the elite and who would be relegated.

The Verona team had finished Serie A inside the relegation zone, in 18th place, with 31 points. Spezia, on the other hand, was one position above, with the same score. Therefore, the Italian Federation chose to promote a decisive confrontation between the two.

With the result, Spezia ends up returning to the Italian second division after three seasons. The team rose to the national elite in 2020, but in all the remaining years it fought not to fall.

How was the game?

Verona opened the scoring less than five minutes into the match, with Faraoni. Spezia even left everything the same, with Ampadu, at 15, but Ngonge put Verona back in front of the scoreboard.

The Belgian scored another goal in the 38th minute, leaving Verona close to staying. Faraoni, from Verona, was sent off in the 23rd minute of the second half, but the team managed to hold on to the result and secure their place in the next edition of the Italian Championship.
