White called staged brawl between McGregor and Miami mascot ‘not the smartest idea’
UFC President Dana White has commented on the incident involving Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor and the Miami Heat mascot. The words of the functionary leads the YouTube channel of the promotion.
“What is wrong with these mascots who want to experience the punch of a professional fighter on their face? What did you expect? It’s not really the smartest idea,” White said.
Earlier on June 11, during the fourth game of the National Basketball Association (NBA) finals against the Denver Nuggets, the Irish athlete took part in a staged fight with a mascot. McGregor struck the man two blows, after which the Miami employee was forced to be hospitalized. Fans in the stands booed the fighter.
McGregor is a former UFC Lightweight and Featherweight Champion. In total, the Irishman has 28 fights in which he won 22 victories and suffered six defeats. He spent the previous fight in the summer of 2021, losing to the American Dustin Poirier by technical knockout, after which he suffered a broken leg and began a long recovery.
