CAS spoke about the timing of the hearings on the doping case of Valieva

The CAS said that the parties agreed to extend the deadline for the exchange of documents in the case of Valieva

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) spoke about the progress of the doping case against Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. The words of the press service of the organization are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“The exchange of documents continues. The parties agreed to extend the usual deadlines for this stage,” the court said. It is noted that the date of the hearing will be determined later, when the lists of witnesses and experts are submitted. CAS added that it is unlikely that it will take place before August 2023.

On January 13, the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, which is an independent body from the main organization, informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, the skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022. Later, the International Skating Union and WADA appealed to CAS, in which they called for the athlete to be disqualified and her results annulled.

At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
