If Russia changes the declared goals of the military operation, there may be an opportunity for a peace agreement, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said at the Dialogues on the Reconstruction of Ukraine forum.
According to RBC with reference to the Ukrainian media, Reznikov stressed that Ukraine can live peacefully, “normally, in a good-neighborly manner with all neighbors.” At the same time, the minister recalled that Moscow set as its goal the “denazification”, “demilitarization” and “deNATOization” of Ukraine. In his opinion, the essence of these tasks is to “wipe the Ukrainian nation off the face of the earth, because we allegedly do not exist from their point of view.”
“So I say, you first identify the interest of the Russians, has it changed for them? If it has changed, then the so-called <…> the zone of possible agreement becomes clear, and if not, then stay in line, we will somehow figure it out without you,” Reznikov emphasized.
In addition, he noted that China and other states that propose their peace plans “compete for the role of a mediator in the negotiations.” In his opinion, in their actions “there is one nuance: for now they all want to be mediators on the side of Russia.” He concluded that since such states do not have “real independent mediation” and impartiality, then Kyiv “will wait and continue to achieve victory.”
