British journalist Michael Day condemned the persecution of Russian and Belarusian tennis players

British journalist Michael Day condemned the persecution of Russian and Belarusian tennis players. His column was published on the I news website.

Day published an article with the headline: “Tennis players are not to blame for the events in Ukraine, so stop treating them like criminals.” He called senseless criticism of the Belarusian Arina Sabalenka. Also in his material, the reporter condemned the political questions that journalists ask Russian and Belarusian tennis players.

On June 2, Sobolenko refused to participate in an open post-match press conference at Roland Garros, saying she did not feel safe answering journalists’ questions. Instead, the Belarusian athlete spoke to a group of media professionals selected by the tournament organizers.

The Women’s Tennis Association and the Association of Professional Tennis Players did not completely remove the Russians and Belarusians. Athletes take part in the tournament in a neutral status.
