Liverpool announce signing of Argentine Alexis Mac Allister

The 24-year-old Argentine had been at Brighton since 2020 and stood out with good performances in English football. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool paid around £35m to sign Mac Allister.

“He’s a player we’ve known for a long time and I’ve watched him grow from a boy entering the Premier League to a man who helped his country win the World Cup. It’s been quite a journey,” said the Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Mac Allister will wear the number 10 shirt of the Reds, which had not been used since Sadio Mané left in 2022. The arrival of the Argentine midfielder is part of an attempt to renew Liverpool’s squad. The club announced the departure of Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of this season.

Formed in the youth system of Argentinos Jrs., Mac Allister was signed by Brighton in January 2019, but remained in Argentine football on loan for another six months. He then wore the shirt of Boca Juniors before leaving for England in 2020.

With Brighton’s shirt, the midfielder played 112 games and scored 20 goals, in addition to providing nine assists. This season, Mac Allister’s team finished sixth in the English Championshipone place below Liverpool, and qualified for a European competition for the first time in its history.
