Ignacio Quintana, coach of the women’s national team of Panama, commented on the shift his team will face in the world Cup this year. The Panamanians fell into Group F along with FranceJamaica e Brazil.
Speaking of the Brazilian national team, Quintana praised the opportunity to face one of the main countries in the football scene and commented on his expectations for the duel. Panama debuts in the Women’s World Cup against Brazil, on July 24, at 8 am (BrasΓlia time).
“For us, playing Brazil will be like going up against the most football-crazed country in the world. As a coach, I can’t ask for more. I can’t wait to hear the Panama anthem alongside Brazil. their debut in World Cups than this one? We will have a selection that has never been left out of an edition and has already come close to winning it”, commented the coach in an interview with FIFA.

Quintana also spoke of coach Pia Sundhage and said that he had already assured the Swedish coach that they would meet in the Cup even before the draw defined the groups.
“I will still have the privilege of being next to the coach of Brazil, Pia [Sundhage], which is an inspiration to me. I met her a few months ago and mentioned that we would face each other. At the time, there hadn’t been the draw yet, but it was a dream come true for me,” she said.
Despite being a newcomer to a women’s World Cup and having never played in the Olympics, Panama intends to be competitive and make life difficult for the group’s favorites. At least that’s what Quintana guarantees.
“Realistically, we want to win points. We’re not just going there with the dream of participating, we want to compete. We want to cause problems for our opponents. We’re not going to give them anything, not a centimeter on the field or a second on the clock”, he analyzed.
