The wait of more than three decades is finally over. After 33 years of the last title of the Italian Championship, Napoli raised the ‘Scudetto’ again. This Sunday, the team beat relegated Sampdoria by 2-0, at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, for the 38th round of the A league.
Top scorer Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Simeone scored the goals in the Neapolitan victory that ended a historic campaign. With the result, Napoli reached 90 points and finished with a lead of 16 over vice-leader Lazio.
On the other hand, last-placed Sampdoria played its last match in the elite of Italian football in 2023. From next season, the Genoa team will fight for access to the second division.
This Sunday’s game also marked Fabio Quagliarella’s farewell to the lawns. The 40-year-old striker will retire and received a huge applause from both fans in the stadium.

The game
After a disputed and blocked first stage, Napoli came back better from the break. Under the festive atmosphere at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Victor Osimhen conceded a penalty and converted the kick to open the scoring in the 19th minute. The Nigerian striker ended the Italian Championship with 26 goals, the top scorer in the competition.
Then coach Luciano Spalletti promoted several substitutions in the second half, giving opportunities to players who don’t usually have many minutes like Gaetano, Raspadori, Bereszynski, Demme and Simeone. In the 40th minute, Giovanni Simeone hit a beautiful shot from outside the area and closed the victory at home.
