Barcelona beats Wolfsburg to win the Women’s Champions League

On Saturday morning, the Barcelona beat Wolfsburg by 3-2 and was the great champion of the Champions League Feminina. The duel took place at PSV’s stadium, Philips Stadion, in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Ewa Pajor and Alexandra Popp scored for the German side, while defensive midfielder Patri Guijarro scored twice to level the scores. Fridolina Rolfo scored the winning goal for the Catalans.

It is only the second time that the Spanish team wins the trophy – the first one occurred in the 20/21 season, when the players beat Chelsea 4-0. Wolfsburg and Umea (Sweden) as the third club with the most trophies in the tournament. The first place is occupied by Lyon, with eight conquestsand second place is Frankfurt, with four.

The game

Barcelona started the match putting pressure on the Germans. However, 3 minutes into the game, Lucy Bronze lost the ball on the edge of the area and Pajor hit a great shot to make it 1-0 for Wolfsburg. Despite having felt the goal, the Spanish club continued with the pressure, but could not get the finish right. In the 37th minute, the German team took off with the ball and, while defender Mapi Leรณn complained about an unmarked free kick, Popp received a cross and headed towards the goal to increase the advantage: 2 to 0.

In the second half, Barรงa came back focused on at least tying the match. He resumed the pressure made in the opening minutes of the first half and, also in the 3rd minute of the game, after a beautiful play by Caroline Graham Hansen, Patri scored for the Spanish team. The second goal was also scored by the midfielder, this time with a header, after receiving another ball from the Norwegian right-winger.

The draw shook the psychology of the Wolfsburg players, who were unable to react after the Catalans’ draw. Wilms took the ball back inside the area and kicked it, which hit her teammate in the face. In the rebound, Mariona regained possession for Barcelona and passed it to Fridolina Rolfo, who scored the winning goal for the second Champions League in the club’s history.
