UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against Mourinho for insulting Europa League final referee

This Friday, UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the coach of Romathe Portuguese José Mourinho, for having insulted the referee of the final of the Europa Leaguelost on Wednesday to the Sevillaon penalties.

In a video recorded in the parking lot of the stadium, the Portuguese coach said several times to the English referee Anthony Taylor: “P… shame, it’s a p… shame”. This is considered “misbehavior” punishable by UEFA regulations with suspension, which can also be accompanied by a fine or “general interest work in the service of football”.

During a particularly tense match, the referee handed out as many as 13 yellow cards, 7 of them to Roma players, and a total of over 25 extra minutes were played due to numerous interruptions.

According to the English refereeing organization PGMOL, Anthony Taylor and his family were also “harassed and insulted” by Roma fans at the airport, facts not taken into account by UEFA, whose powers do not exceed the limits of the stadium.

Uefa’s disciplinary processes also point to the two teams a series of more common infractions in the European scenario: “invasion of the pitch, throwing projectiles, lighting of flares and incorrect behavior of the team” for Sevilla, and “throwing projectiles, lighting of flags, degradation, mass movements and incorrect behavior of the team” in the case of Roma.
