A day after the professional team was eliminated from the Copa do Brasil by Bahia in the penalty shootout, the under-17 team from Santos suffered the same fate this Thursday. For the semifinal of the Brics Cup in the category, played in the State of São Paulo, Peixe fell to the Russian team by 10 to 9, after a 2 to 2 draw in normal time, in a game held at CT Rei Pelé, in Santos.
In the competition, Santos played three games in the group stage and won two. In his debut, he thrashed Juventus 7-0, at the Rua Javari stadium, in São Paulo, and then defeated Zenit St.Petersburg, from Russia, by 2-1, at the Nacional stadium, also in the city of São Paulo. In the last round, they lost to Palmeiras by 1-0, at Academia de Futebol II, in Guarulhos (SP), and advanced in second place.
Against Russia, the one who missed the decisive penalty was goalkeeper Jackson. Santos’ goals in normal time were scored by Rodrigo Cezar and João Victor. The two were Santos’ top scorers in the competition. The first swung the net three times and the other wrote down two. Mateus Xavier, JP Chermont, Murilo Coutinho, Luisinho, Diego and Lucas Yan scored one each.
This Thursday, Santos, commanded by coach Elder Campos, played with Gustavo Casanova (Jackson); JP Chermont, João Alencar, Samuel e Souza; Vinícius Lira (João Victor), Kenay and Lucas Yan; Murilo Coutinho (Murillo Pará), Mateus Xavier (Arthur Manoel) and Rodrigo Cezar.
