Benfica was portuguese champion not last weekend after defeating Santa Clara, at Estádio da Luz. The celebration of Eagles fans took to the streets of cities in Portugal and there were provocations to rivals.
Benfica’s Brazilian striker David Neres sent messages to players from Porto e Sporting on social networks and was spotted singing “Suck lizards and suck tripeiros” during the celebrations of the 38th national cup with the crowd.
The former playerSão Paulo commented on publications by Otávio, from Porto, and Pedro Gonçalves, from Sporting, to provoke them after Benfica’s Portuguese title. Next, the communication director at Dragão demanded punishment from David Neres.
“The Benfica player insulted Sporting and FC Porto, behavior that has become unacceptable in recent years and will have to be punished for this as happened to other players in similar situations. If people don’t notice, FC Porto will make it to the Federation. Our expectation is that the Benfica player will be punished”, declared Francisco Marques, director of Porto.
This Thursday, the Disciplinary Board of the Portuguese Football Federation instituted a disciplinary process against the Brazilian to investigate the provocations against rival players.

Last season, athletes Otávio, Fábio Cardoso, Diogo Costa and Manafá, from Porto, were punished for insulting Benfica in the celebrations for winning the 2021/22 Portuguese Championship and took a suspension match.
If the same happens to David Neres, the player should be missing from Benfica in the debut of next season, for the Portuguese Super Cup, in August.
