The Croatian Luka Modric can leave the Real Madrid next season. According to the newspaper ‘Ok Diario’, the midfielder received a millionaire offer of 120 million net euros for three seasons of football in Saudi Arabia and has already communicated to the Spanish club that he will accept it.
According to the newspaper, the Real Madrid delegation had doubts about the midfielder’s performance, as he will turn 38 in September and will not give up being called up by the Croatia national team, which makes him subject to a greater load of high-intensity games.

The ‘Ok Diario’ claims, however, that even after the board put aside the doubts they had in the athlete, Modric decided not to renew with the team from the Spanish capital, despite having given his word that he would remain in the team for at least one more year.
The Croatian’s contract with Real Madrid ends on June 30, but his desire was to remain in the team “only on merit”. His performance made him return to being a fundamental part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team, convincing the club to keep him. However, the report reveals that, tempted by the offer of Arab football, Modric asked to leave.
According to the publication, the athlete would have already communicated to Florentino Pérez that he will listen to Saudi Arabia’s offers despite having verbally agreed to extend his contract with the Madrid club – a case similar to what happened to striker Karim Benzema.

The newspaper also explains that Real Madrid would already have the announcements of the renewals of the Croatian and Frenchman ready to be published, as well as that of Toni Kroos. However, he was surprised by the situations in recent days. The news, however, did not leave the club surprised – the board became aware of the offers months ago, but believed that both would refuse them.
Real Madrid decided to buy Luka Modric in the 2012/2013 season for 40 million euros, when he was still playing for Tottenham. Ten seasons later, the midfielder became one of the most successful athletes in the club’s history. Today, Modric has 23 titles with Madrid, including five Champions League.
With the likely departure of the world runner-up midfielder, Real is now focusing on extending Dani Ceballos’ contract, which also ends on June 30. The board believes he could be Modric’s replacement. Although a week ago the Spaniard was closer to leaving than staying, today he is very close to renewing his bond with the Madrid team.
Therefore, Madrid hopes to make up for Modric’s departure with a player who has the same profile and, on top of that, has Ancelotti’s confidence.
