A Juventus was fined, this Tuesday, in 718 thousand euros (R$ 3.8 million in the current quotation) by the court of the Italian Football Federation and got rid of a new withdrawal of points in the Italian Championship for having accepted to plead guilty. The penalty was applied for irregularities in player salary payments.
The agreement requested by Juve and accepted by the FIGC puts an end to a series of sporting justice proceedings against the club.
However, the punishment applied last week that took ten points from the team for tax fraud in player transfers was maintained, explained the federation.
In addition to the club, seven former directors also received fines ranging from 10,000 euros (R$ 53,000) to 47,000 euros (R$ 251,000).
Former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has asked for additional time to reach an agreement with the prosecution and will wait a few weeks before being judged by the federation on the case.
According to the newspaper The printwhich belongs to the Agnelli family, the club accepted this solution and committed not to file an appeal with the aim of avoiding a new withdrawal of points, which would further distance the team from the European cups.
Juventus and several former managers, such as Agnelli, former vice-president Pavel Nedved and former export director Fabio Paratici, appeared again in court in the case of payment of player salaries without due accountability, according to the FIGC. .
These accounting “maneuvers” on salaries, with the aim of artificially reducing losses on annual balance sheets during the covid-19 pandemic, were detected by the Turin prosecutor’s office in an investigation against Juve.
The club is alleged to have officially declared the non-payment of several months’ wages, but to have reached an agreement with its players to pay a portion in a later fiscal year.
Regarding the directors, the accusation is that they declared to the Italian League the non-payment of four months salary (March to June 2020) for 21 players and the coach, but without informing the agreements made in parallel, explained the federation. Similar maneuvers would have been carried out in the following season, 2020-2021.
