Karim Benzema’s contract with Real Madrid ends in June of this year and the renewal for another season would be under way. However, the Frenchman could leave the club sooner than expected if he accepts a proposal to play in Saudi Arabia.
According to the newspaper Relevo, Benzema received an offer from a Saudi team and would be considering changing Real Madrid next season. The proposal revolves around 200 million euros for a two-year contract, plus image and publicity rights.
The identity of the team interested in the 35-year-old player was not revealed, but the Spanish outlet also noted that Benzema had been promised to build schools for children in Saudi Arabia as part of the transfer deal.
This year, the Frenchman will complete 14 seasons wearing the shirt of Real Madrid since he signed with the Meringue club in 2009, coming from Lyon, France. Benzema is the second highest scorer in the history of Real Madrid, with 353 goals, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently at Al-Nassr, Saudi Arabia.
This season, Benzema has scored 30 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances. But he missed 17 games for Real Madrid, either through injury or as a precaution from coach Carlo Ancelotti. In this way, the Meringue club was already thinking about signing a reserve for the Frenchman in this transfer window, but may have to look for a substitute striker.
“Real Madrid’s project must be hiring a nine, because Karim is already of a certain age. But, until today, despite the ups and downs, it has worked well. Rodrigo, VinÃcius, Asensio… the problem in these last two years has not been the front line”, declared Ancelotti in May, before a match valid for the 33rd round of La Liga.
