O Chelsea announced, this Monday, the hiring of Mauricio Pochettino as coach for the 2023/24 season. The Argentine arrives at the team with an agreement valid until 2025, with an option to renew for another year.
The English team experienced a troubled moment after the resignations of Thomas Tuchel, in September 2022, and Graham Potter, in April of this year. After breaches of contract, Chelsea agreed with Frank Lampard to be interim until the end of this season.
Pochettino has not trained since his departure from Paris Saint Germain, where he was replaced by Christophe Galtier last summer. In his previous stages, he passed by Espanyol, Southampton and Tottenhamwhere he stayed for five periods and left great memories.
“Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea well. He is a winning coach who has worked at the highest level in several leagues. His spirit, tactical approach and commitment to development made him an exceptional candidate,” said Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sports directors.
Chelsea ended their Premier League campaign as the club’s worst in the Premier League era. The team was in 12th place, with 44 points (11 wins, 11 draws and 16 losses).
