The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) and the tournament organization reported that a member of the Spanish team was positive.
“After receiving the results of the tests carried out by the organization the health response plan has been activated in coordination with the independent medical chief of the competition ”, indicates the RFET statement.
Carlos Alcaraz, minutes later, confirmed that he was the member of the Spanish team that has tested positive.
“Hi everyone. I wanted to communicate that I have tested positive for COVID-19, which will prevent me from playing the Davis Cup how excited I was. The Saturday that we met for the first time with the team, I did a PCR and I tested negative and every two days antigen tests and all negative, ”the Spanish player said on Instagram.
“Am sad about the way i miss such an important tournament and super special for me as is the Davis Cup. I was very excited to be able to play and represent my country in Madrid, in front of my people ”, assumes Alcaraz, for the first time summoned by the Spanish team.
“Sometimes things don’t happen the way you want them to and you have to get over it. It is a very hard stick but we will have to get up in this situation and leave reinforced”, Says Carlos Alcaraz who added that he is in good condition with very mild symptoms.
