Despite winning the title of Italian Championship this season, the Napoli should have changes in your command. Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of the club, confirmed that coach Luciano Spalletti has asked to leave and, therefore, will not remain at the head of the team.
In an interview with Rai 3the president and owner of Napoli claimed that Spalletti requested a “gap year”, even though he had one more year left on his contract with the club.
“He told me: at this point we’ve done our best, a cycle of my life is over, I’d rather stop. Spalletti is a great person and a great coach, he has cultivated an extraordinary raw material. I always thank him, but when a coach tells you with certainty what do you do? Do you object? Thank you and I wish you the best,” said the manager.
Spalletti arrived at Napoli in July 2021. After a difficult start, in which even had his car stolen by fans dissatisfied with their work, the coach managed to find the right one. This year, his brilliant season resulted in the Italian title, which the club had not won since 1990, when Maradona led the team.
Regardless of what he does next season, Spalletti will be on the sidelines next Sunday, when Napoli will end the year against Sampdoria, in the last round of the Italian Championship. This Saturday, they faced Bologna and, after two goals from Osimhen, conceded the tie in the end. With that, he reached 87 points in the competition.
