Fans at Roland Garros booed Ukrainian Kostyuk for refusing to shake hands with Sobolenko

Fans at Roland Garros booed Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk for refusing to shake hands with Belarusian Arina Sobolenko after the match. It is reported on Twitter The Tennis Podcast.

Sobolenko considered that the stands reacted this way to her victory and made an ironic bow towards the fans. “Sorry guys, at first I didn’t understand – I thought that this “boo” was addressed to me, and I was a little surprised. But then I felt your support, so thank you very much, ”the athlete later commented on the situation. She added that emotionally it was a very difficult game.

On May 28, Sobolenko defeated Kostyuk in the first round of the tournament with a score of 6:3, 6:2. Tennis players spent 1 hour and 11 minutes on the court. In the next round, the Belarusian will play with compatriot Irina Shimanovich, who in the first round turned out to be stronger than the Hungarian Panna Udvardi.

Roland Garros takes place in Paris from May 28 to June 10. Russian athletes are allowed to participate in the tournament in a neutral status.
