CSKA basketball players visited Norilsk at the invitation of the general sponsor of the army club, Norilsk Nickel, and played a match with metallurgists. This was reported in a press release of the organization received by the editors of “Lenta.ru”.
Athletes Ivan Ukhov, Samson Ruzhentsev, Anton Astapkovich and Philip Gafurov arrived in Taimyr and met with the teams of Norilsk Nickel’s polar branch, Nickel and Palladium, captained by Senior Vice Presidents Sergei Stepanov and Nikolai Utkin.
In the first half, Nickel created a solid plus 20 lead, but Palladium was already ahead after a long break. In the end, the teams staged a real dunk contest, finishing four attacks in a row from above, and scored a draw – 109:109.
“The main result of the match is that three thousand Norilsk citizens with children came to watch spectacular and incendiary basketball. And next time we come, I’m sure that three thousand will come again. I am very glad that our company has been cooperating for such a long time with such a great team, which shows a high level even in difficult situations,” said Stepanov.
In addition, during two days in the polar city, army basketball players managed to visit the Bear Creek open pit, visit the showroom of the Sulfur Program, a unique project that can reduce up to 90 percent of sulfur dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, and learn how metal in the smelting shop of the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant.
The visit to Norilsk was the final event of the season, in which CSKA is celebrating both the 100th anniversary of the club and the 20th anniversary of cooperation with Norilsk Nickel. During this time, CSKA won the Euroleague four times and reached the final of four major European cups 17 times.
