Roma loses to Fiorentina and has no more chances to go to the Champions League with the Italian

Roma was defeated away from home by Fiorentina this Saturday, by 2-1, for the 37th and penultimate round of the Italian Championship. The setback has exhausted their chances of reaching the ranking zone for the next Champions League via Serie A.

With this seventh consecutive game without a win in Serie A (four draws and three defeats), the ‘giallorossi’ remain sixth in the table with 60 points, four below Milanwhich closes the G4.

Coach José Mourinho’s team now has only one path to compete in next season’s Champions: the final of the Europa Leagueagainst Sevilla, next Wednesday.

The defeat at the Artemio Franchi Stadium on Saturday was especially painful for Roma, who took the lead in the 11th minute when Stephan El Shaarawy scored with a header. In the final stretch of the match, Fiorentina managed to come back in three minutes with goals from Serbian Luka Jovic, at 85′, and Frenchman Jonathan Ikoné, at 88′.
