Cannes Film Festival. Palme d’Or for Justine Triet for Anatomy of a Fall

The 76th Canne International Film Festival has gone down in history. The most prestigious film trophy in the world, the Golden Palm, went this year to Justine Triet for Anatomy of Fall, which was presented by Jane Fonda. Jonathan Glazer received the Grand Prix this year for his war film “The Zone of Interest”. The best director was awarded to Tran Anh Hung for “La Passion de Dodin Bouffant”.

This year’s festival of international cinematography lasted from 16 to 27 May. Over the last 11 days, the jury of the main competition watched a total of 21 films that this year competed for the film equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The chairman of the jury during this edition was the winner of last year’s Palme d’Or, Ruben Östlund. The director received it then for the black comedy “In the Triangle”, but he was also honored with the same statuette in 2017 for the film “The Square”. The other members of the jury were American actress Brie Larson, Moroccan director and screenwriter Maryam Touzani, French actor Denis Ménochet, Zambian director and screenwriter Rungano Nyoni, Afghan director and screenwriter Atiq Rahimi, Argentinian director and screenwriter Damián Szifrón and French director and screenwriter Julia Ducournau.

Cannes Film Festival. We know the award winners

We learned about who received the Golden Palm at the very end of the gala. The most important award at the Cannes festival was presented by Jane Fonda, who mentioned that she remembered what the event looked like many years earlier and admitted that she noticed the changes that had taken place. She meant a greater presence of women in the jury of the main competition, as well as among the nominated directors. At the same time, she noted that there is still much to be done.
