Spanish FA lowers Valencia’s punishment for racism against Vinícius Júnior

The Appeals Commission of the Spanish Federation (RFEF) reduced this Friday, from five to three games, the period of partial closure of the Mestalla Stadium, partly accepting an appeal by Valencia. The entity also reduced the value of the fine applied to the club, after the racist insults against striker Vinícius Júnior, from Real Madrid.

Valencia had appealed the decision of the Competitions Committee (the RFEF’s disciplinary body) to ban Mario Kempes’ tribune, from Mestalla, for five games, where the insults against the Brazilian began last Sunday.

The Appeals Commission, which had already refused on Thursday to suspend the sanction imposed by the competition, has agreed to reduce the sanction on the Valencian club, according to a resolution made public this Friday.

The Commission considers that “the club (Valencia) cannot be exempted when the typification is correct and there is not a sufficiently intense disposition of measures (to prevent the insults). But, we believe that they were not sufficiently taken into account, by the Appeals Commission , the measures taken by the club during the match to avoid what happened”.

In this way, the Resources Commission reduced the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium from five to three games, which should start to be applied on Sunday in the match in which Valencia will face Espanyol, for the penultimate round of the Spanish Championship.

The appeal also reduced the fine imposed on Valencia from 45,000 to 27,000 euros (from R$240,000 to R$144,000 at current prices).
