A year without Diego Maradona and without certainty about his death

The Argentine Justice is still investigating what happened in the days and hours prior to his death.

On November 25, 2020, the world shook with the news of the death of soccer star Diego Maradona, one of the most famous athletes of all time. One exact year after his death, the Argentine Justice is still investigating what happened in the days and hours prior to his death.

Seven people related to the medical care of the world champion with Argentina in Mexico 1986 are investigated for alleged “simple homicide with eventual intent” seeking to determine if the care of the ex-footballer was deficient.

Those investigated

Leopoldo Luque: Neurosurgeon, is pointed out by relatives and relatives as Maradona’s general practitioner, although he denies it and assures that the star only paid attention to him because he saw him as “a friend.” Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, daughters of the former footballer, accuse him of being one of the most responsible for the death of their father together with the lawyer Matías Morla.

Agustina Cosachov: She is the psychiatrist who was in charge of his medications and, according to the messages leaked by the press, of coordinating with Luque the work of the medical team. Too is investigated for alleged “ideological falsehood” after being accused of certifying that the soccer star was in good health without having seen him.

Carlos Diaz: he is the last psychologist he had. He was the doctor who made the most determinations after Luque and Cosachov. Morla’s trusted man, friend, lawyer and in charge of managing Maradona’s finances.

Nancy Forlini: She is the doctor who coordinated home care.

Mariano Perroni: He was the coordinator of the nurses.

Dahiana Gisela Madrid: She is the nurse who was in the house when Maradona died.

Ricardo Almirón: nurse who was at home the night before death. He was the last person to see him alive.

Cross accusations

Each of those investigated denied having given poor care to the soccer star and pointed to another as responsible for medical care. However, Luque and Cosachov are, for most, the ones who made decisions about the patient’s health.

The witnesses

To carry out the investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office took witness statements from many people around Maradona.

His children, his sisters, doctors who treated him and even ex-partners of the champion with Argentina in Mexico 86 had to testify in the case investigating whether there was negligent care.

The one targeted by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona

Dalma and Gianinna, daughters of Maradona with his ex-wife Claudia Villafañe, they consider that the main person responsible for the death of their father is Morla, the closest and most important person the star had during his last years.

According to them, Morla managed the life and career of the star and was the one who hired the doctors, security employees, cooks and other people who were close to Maradona.

‘Diego Maradona felt betrayed and robbed by his daughters, Dalma and Gianinna’, says the lawyer of ’10’

The lawyer and the neurosurgeon Luque are, for them, the most responsible for the death of their father.

However, Morla is publicly defended by Maradona’s sisters, who also have him as a lawyer.

Marijuana, Alcohol and criticism of the environment

Who lived with Maradona they supplied him with alcohol and marijuana almost daily, sometimes to “get rid of” the soccer star, and that worried the medical staff that treated him, according to the audio leaked to the Argentine press.

Diego Maradona had “inadequate, deficient and reckless” medical care, according to a report from the Argentine justice

Last December, the toxicological report carried out in the framework of the investigation of Maradona’s death revealed that there was neither alcohol nor illegal drugs in the body of the star at the time of his death, but there is the presence of various medications to treat their physical and mental health.

In the last few months, Maradona suffered from alcoholism.

Diego’s death and the autopsy result

Maradona, 60, was admitted to a clinic in the city of La Plata on November 2, 2020 due to anemia and dehydration, and a day later he was transferred to a sanatorium in the Buenos Aires town of Olivos, where he underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma.

On November 11, he was discharged from the hospital, but had to continue with home care to be under treatment.

November 25 died in a private neighborhood on the outskirts of Buenos Aires and the autopsy determined that he died as a consequence of “acute lung edema secondary to exacerbated chronic heart failure.”

They also discovered a “dilated cardiomyopathy” in his heart.

A year later, the tributes continue

Maradona’s figure has only grown larger since his death.

In the last year countless murals were inaugurated, several books were published and busts of the world champion were inaugurated.

The neighborhood where Maradona’s remains rest becomes a cultural revolution

In addition, the deputy José Luis Gioja presented a bill to declare on October 30, the day of Maradona’s birth, like the “National Soccer Day”.

This Thursday, an exact year after his death, Argentines and the whole world once again remember the sports idol while they wait for the Justice to determine whether or not there was responsible for his death. (D)
