Tarasova said that there is no need to call on the Russians to boycott international tournaments
Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova responded to calls for a boycott of the Olympic Games by Russian athletes. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti
The specialist said that there is no need to boycott international competitions and that athletes should not be encouraged to do so. She agreed with the opinion of coach Alexander Zhulin, who criticized the State Duma deputies for such slogans. “If there is an opportunity, we must participate,” Tarasova emphasized.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
