Olympic champion Alexei Kasatonov spoke out against the broadcasting of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup matches in Russia
Two-time Olympic champion Alexei Kasatonov spoke out against broadcasting matches of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship in Russia. It is reported by Sport24.
“Who is there to root for? For the countries that are at war with us? I don’t understand this,” he said. According to Kasatonov, professionals would have found a way to follow the tournament anyway.
According to the ex-hockey player, the level of play at the current tournament is very low. “Norway beats Canada, when was that? Mediocre players, mediocre teams,” Kasatonov said.
The 2023 World Championship takes place in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia, from 12 to 28 May. Initially, the tournament was supposed to be hosted by St. Petersburg, but due to IIHF sanctions, the venue was moved, and the teams of Russia and Belarus missed the championship.
