The CAS said that the removal of Russian football clubs is not discriminatory
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) explained the removal of Russian football clubs from international competitions. The statement is published on the website of the organization.
The CAS said the decision did not violate the principles of political neutrality and Swiss law. In their opinion, it is not discriminatory and is within the discretion of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). “The decision was reasonable. It was necessary to ensure the safe, calm and orderly conduct of tournaments, ”the representatives of the court emphasized.
Appeals by RPL clubs to be suspended from European competition were rejected in July 2022. Zenit, Sochi, Dynamo and CSKA tried to challenge the non-admission to European tournaments.
Russian football has faced isolation due to the decisions of the International Football Federation and UEFA. The Russian national team has lost the chance to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the clubs do not have the opportunity to play in European competition.
