Koundé denies having asked to leave Barcelona: “I’m not going anywhere”

Defender Jules Koundé of the Barcelonaused his social networks to deny the information published in the Spanish press that he was unhappy with Xavi for being used insistently at right-back, instead of as a defender, and would have asked to leave the Catalan club.

“To be clear: at no point have I asked to leave, so I’m not going anywhere,” the Frenchman wrote on his Twitter account. Twitter.

According to the newspaper Brand, from Spain, Koundé, however, actually would have said last European summer that he is not a right-back, but a defender. This would even be one of the reasons for the player’s choice to wear the Barcelona shirt – he was close to agreeing with Chelsea, where the option to play on the side was known.

However, as the season went on, the 24-year-old ended up being used primarily in the sector that has no preference. In all, he played 38 games in 2022/23, with one goal and six assists.

This season, there were 27 games in La Liga – in which Barcelona were crowned champions on the last day 14 -, 18 as a full-back and nine in central defence.

Still according to the renowned Spanish vehicle, Koundé, then, had met with Xavi and expressed discontent with the situation. Therefore, in order to prevent the beginning of an internal crisis, director of football Mateu Alemany stated that the Catalan club will resolve the “Koundé issue internally”.

Finally, with the Frenchman available, Barcelona will be back on the field next Sunday, to fulfill the table in the spanish league. For the penultimate round, the Catalonia team receives Mallorca, at 2 pm (Brasília time), at Camp Nou.
