Messi wished Alba good luck as he decided to leave Barcelona at the end of the 2022/2023 season
Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentine striker Lionel Messi has turned to vice-captain Jordi Alba, who left Barcelona. The athlete spoke on Instagram (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia).
“You were more than just a teammate, a true soul mate on the pitch… Thank you for everything, Jordi. Big hugs,” Messi wrote. He also wished that the new stage of his career would bring many successes and joys to the defender.
On May 24, Barcelona announced that Alba would leave the team at the end of the 2022/2023 season. It is noted that the club and the 34-year-old player reached an agreement on the early termination of the contract, which was supposed to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
Alba is a six-time Spanish champion, five-time Cup winner and four-time Spanish Super Cup winner. He also has won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Together with Messi, they played for the Catalans for nine years.
