FIS equalizes men’s and women’s distances at the World Cup in cross-country skiing and will change them at the Olympics
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has officially equalized men’s and women’s distances at the world championships. This was reported on the website of the organization.
“The application process for changing distances at the Olympic Games will be initiated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC),” the FIS added. Athletes will compete in 10, 20 and 50 km races, 10+10 km skiathlon, four 7.5 km relay, as well as team and individual sprints.
In the 2022/2023 season, the organization has already approved equal distances at the World Cup. Men and women ran races of 10, 20 and 50 kilometers.
In addition, on Wednesday, May 24, at a meeting of the FIS Executive Committee, a decision was made to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes until further notice. Skiers were suspended for the first time in March 2022.
