Former coach of the Russian national team Krikunov urged to support the United States and Canada at the Ice Hockey World Cup

Former coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Krikunov urged to support the US and Canadian teams at the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship. His words are quoted by Legalbet.

The specialist explained his call by the fact that in these countries Russian hockey players are not forbidden to play. “And ordinary fans can also cheer for beautiful hockey,” he said. Krikunov stressed that he attended two matches of the tournament, but in general he does not find it interesting.

The 2023 World Championship takes place in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia, from May 12 to 28. The national teams of Russia and Belarus are missing the tournament due to the sanctions of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). By decision of the organizers of the championship, the demonstration of national flags and any symbols of the two suspended states is prohibited.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in the National Hockey League (NHL).
