Boxer Lomachenko says tears after Haney’s defeat brought back memories of son
Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko explained his tears after losing to the undisputed world champion American Devin Haney at a tournament in the United States. His words are quoted by the Top Rank Boxing YouTube channel.
The athlete stated that the emotions triggered memories of his son. “My son called me seven times today and every time he said:“ New champion, new champion. When I remembered this, it was hard,” he stressed.
Earlier on May 21, Lomanchenko lost to Haney by unanimous decision. The fight took place in Las Vegas and lasted all 12 rounds. Thus, the American defended the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF), WBA Super and The Ring world titles.
In total, the 35-year-old Lomachenko won 17 victories and suffered three losses in his career. The 24-year-old Haney has 30 wins and no losses.
