Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin spoke out against the boycott of international tournaments by Russians

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin spoke about the boycott of international tournaments by Russian athletes. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“It is never necessary to boycott anything at all, it is necessary to continue the dialogue with international sports organizations and with the obligatory condition of protecting the interests of our athletes,” Matytsin said.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the events in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC.
