Corinthians under-19 team misses four penalties and loses the final of the FIFA Youth Cup in Switzerland

Corinthians was runner-up in the FIFA Youth Cup, an under-19 tournament held in Switzerland, after being defeated in the final by FC Zurich by 2-0 on penalties, after a goalless draw in normal time. The striking fact of the decision was that the Brazilian team missed the four charges it made – with Léo Maná, Renato, Guilherme Henrique and Gabriel Moscardo.

The annual competition, which is organized by FIFA, had the participation of eight teams in this edition. Corinthians played in Group B along with Liverpool (England), Grasshopper (Switzerland) and Blue Stars (Switzerland). In group A, Olympique de Marseille (France), FC Zurich (Switzerland), Academie Generation Foot (Senegal) and Basel (Switzerland) played.

In the first phase, Corinthians debuted against Blue Stars and won 3-0. Breno Bidon, Pedrinho and Cressi scored the goals. Those goals were all Timão scored in the competition. Then, goalless draws with Liverpool and Grasshopper, which secured second place in Group B.

The semi-final was against Academie Generation Foot and a new 0-0 ensued. In the penalty shootout, Corinthians, which was led by coach Danilo, did better and won by 4 to 2.

Due to the regulations, Danilo can register only 18 players and they could not be born in 2003. Thus, the base team in the competition was Kauê; Léo Mana, Renato, Cressi and Vitor Meer; Gabriel Moscardo, Bahia and Pedrinho; Breno Bidon, Léo Agostinho and Juninho. On the bench were Felipe Longo, Kayke, Thomas Lisboa, Guilherme Henrique, Caipira, Thomas Agustín and João Vinicius.
