Bielsa is presented as coach of Uruguay and guarantees that fans can dream

The new technician Uruguaythe Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, assured that the fans of ‘Celeste’ can be filled with hope, when he presented himself to the press this Wednesday at the Estadio Centenario, in Montevideo.

Bielsa did not present novelties, but gave conceptual answers laden with meaning. He revealed nothing, for example, about the future in the selection of the last great Uruguayan stars, such as strikers Luis Suรกrez and Edinson Cavani.

“Any decision involving a player with a historical background cannot be taken without listening to them. I have a lot of respect for idols because they are the people’s heritage and idols are a precious metal for the poorest. I would never knowingly do something that could harm an idol “, he explained.

The 67-year-old Argentine coach detailed, on the other hand, how he decided to take charge of Celeste, world champions in 1930 and 1950.

Uruguay is one of the countries that, in terms of football, “can dream and feed hopes with high-level players”, he said, explaining why he discarded much more tempting financial proposals that some clubs made him, although he did not reveal figures. .

“One of the things I considered a lot is that I wouldn’t have any club that could offer me a group of players like Uruguay has at the moment,” he said.

“They didn’t need to convince me, I would say it was almost the opposite. My desire to belong to this project has two extremes: the players that Uruguay has and the recipient: the common citizen”.

“The way I understand football is assimilable to the players I will have,” he said.

After mentioning the little time he will have to work before Celeste’s debut against Chile, in September, in the South American qualifiers for the world Cup 2026, he said he will dedicate himself to keeping up with the players he knows least.

“The great players don’t need a lot of time to assimilate a style if that style represents them. And the really great ones do it instantly”, commented the former coach of the Chilean and Argentine national teams and of clubs such as Leeds, Athletic Bilbao and Olympique. of Marseille, among others.

He also highlighted that he will make the most of the nine days he will have at his disposal the players called up in June, in view of the international friendlies that Uruguay will play in Montevideo against Nicaragua and Cuba, on the 14th and 20th of this month.
