The route of the thirteenth stage of the Giro d’Italiawhich is disputed this Friday, May 19, between Borgofranco d’Ivrea and the Swiss station of Crans Montanaplanned over 207 kilometers, has been modifiedby heavy snowfall and the avalanche riskas announced on Tuesday by the organization of the race.

“Taking into account the exceptional snowfall and the risk of avalanches, it is announced that the race will not go over the top of the Grand Saint-Bernard, but through the tunnel. The Cima Coppi moves to the arrival of Tres Cimas de Lavaredo. The ascent of Grand Saint-Bernard will remain as a category 1 port, and points will be awarded accordingly,” the organization reported. The stage that ends in Tres Cimas de Lavaredo will be the nineteenth, and is scheduled for Friday May 26.

In this way, the thirteenth stage will have 199 kilometers, although the start time will remain unchanged, and will ascend the 1st climbs of the Croix de Coeur and the final climb to Crans Montana.

La Cima Coppi is the highest mountain climbed in each edition of the Giro d’Italia, and, in addition to the honor that comes first for the rider who achieves it, scores in a special way for the Mountain Grand Prix .
