Latvian tennis player quarreled with the referee during a match with a Russian woman

Latvian tennis player Ostapenko quarreled with the referee during a match with Kasatkina in Rome

Latvian tennis player Elena Ostapenko quarreled with referee Maria Cicak during a match against Russian Daria Kasatkina in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. Video available in Twitter The Tennis Letter.

The incident occurred in the second set of the meeting with the score 4:2 in favor of Kasatkina. Ostapenko challenged the referee’s decision to count a point in favor of the Russian, stating that the ball had gone out of bounds. “You will never refere my matches again,” the 25-year-old athlete shouted to the referee.

The match ended with the victory of Ostapenko with a score of 6:4, 4:6, 6:0. The Latvian tennis player reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Rome.

Ostapenko is ranked 20th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking. She is the winner of the Grand Slam – Roland Garros in 2017. The athlete also has 11 titles in WTA tournaments.
