Olympic medalists in weightlifting Klokova and Zabolotnaya were disqualified for doping
Six Russian weightlifters were disqualified for doping. This was reported on the website of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR).
Dmitry Klokov, Svetlana Tsarukaeva, Natalya Zabolotnaya, Apti Aukhadov, Olga Zubova and Alexei Kosov were punished. The decision was made on the basis of data from the Moscow laboratory information management system for the period from 2012 to 2013.
The silver medalist of the 2008 Games, the world champion Klokov, was disqualified for four years, until May 11, 2027. For two years, until February 6, 2024, the world champion Tsarukaeva, who was deprived of the silver medal of the Games in London in 2017 for doping, and Zabolotnaya, the vice-champion of the 2004 Olympics, were suspended. Until November 26, 2025, the European champion Zubova is disqualified.
World champion Aukhadov will be able to return to performances in August 2023. The term for the suspension of the Russian champion Kosovo ended in March 2023.
On May 12, the executive committee of the International Weightlifting Federation allowed Russian athletes to compete in tournaments in a neutral status. The organization said that they decided to follow the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding the Russians.
