When the lights went out at Estádio do Dragão, Porto scored the turning point and beat Casa Pia 2-1, for the 34th round of the Portuguese Championship. After going behind the scoreboard with Evanílson’s own goal, the hosts scored with Mehdi Taremi and Danny Namaso.
The game was tense during the 90 minutes as a stumble by Porto could mathematically guarantee the early title of the Benfica. With the victory in stoppage time, the Dragons reached 79 points in second place, four behind the leader of the championship.
Therefore, the definition of the champion was postponed to the next round, when Porto visits Famalicão and Benfica plays a derby against Sporting, at Estádio de Alvalade. If the Encarnados do not win, Porto could shorten the distance at the top of the table and revive the fight for the title.
The first goal of the match came after a lateral free kick by Casa Pia. Derick Poloni crossed close to the first post, the ball deflected on the Brazilian Evanílson, who ended up scoring the own goal, at the end of the first half.
On the way back from the break, Porto came back with everything in search of a reaction. Former Palmeiras player, Gabriel Verón stole the ball in the opponent’s area and played for Evanílson to push it into the net, but the defense blocked it. The ball returned to Verón who, this time, passed it to Taremi to send it to the goal and tie the match.
In the final stoppage time of the game, the home team went on the attack. After a cross in the area by former Grêmio Pepê, Toni Martínez deflected to the second post and Namaso appeared free to finish in the goal, enacting Porto’s comeback.
