Russians Sharabutdin Ataev and Muslim Gadzhimagomedov won gold at the 2023 World Boxing Championship. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
Ataev, performing in the weight category up to 86 kilograms, was stronger than the Azerbaijani Loren Alfonso Dominguez by a separate decision of the judges. In the weight category up to 92 kilograms, Gadzhimagomedov defeated the Italian Aziz Abbes Mukhidin also by a separate decision of the judges.
Several countries boycotted the World Cup because of the participation of Russians and Belarusians in it. The International Boxing Association (IBA) has launched a disciplinary case against the heads of the national federations of the countries who decided to skip the tournament. The case was opened against the heads of the associations of the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand.
On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
