Manuel Merillas won the Zegama-Aizkorri mountain marathon in the men’s category this Sunday, May 14, while in the women’s, the German Daniela Oemus won the victory.

In the last two kilometers Merillas extended his advantage and won the victory with a time of 3:42.01. Elazzaoui was second at 27 seconds and Albon third to 3 minutes.

Haritz Egea has been the best Basque. The man from Urretxu (Gipuzkoa) crossed the finish line with a time of 4 hours, 5 minutes and 1 second. Three seconds later, Boja Zubizarreta, also from the Basque Country, crossed the finish line.

Oemus wins the women’s event

In the women’s category, L’hirondel Blandine led the race during the first stage, but in the second hour the Chinese Yao Miao took the lead after overtaking the French woman.

However, on the climb to Aizkorri there were changes in the classification. The German Daniela Oemus was the first at the top and led Miao by 1’14”, Blandine by 3’18”, Fielder by 3’21” and Leboeuf by 4’44”.

On the descent the German remained in the lead. In addition, little by little, Oemus was expanding her advantage and in Urbia she already had a 4-minute advantage over the second classified Caitlin Fielder.

Little by little, the New Zealander decreased her disadvantage compared to Oemus, but she did not give her the opportunity to hunt down the German.Oemus managed his advantage well in the final stretch and did not miss the win.
