In the United States, for the first time in history, a sentence will be pronounced in accordance with the “Rodchenkov law”. US doctor Eric Lira has confessed to doping Tokyo Olympics participants, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said in a statement.

Lira is accused of passing banned substances to Nigerian sprinter Divine Odudur and runner Blessing Okagbare ahead of the Olympics.

The doctor recommended that athletes, in case of doping, blame the meat eaten for everything. Prosecutor Damian Williams called Lyra’s recognition a “watershed for international sport”.

In January 2022, the United States recorded the first case of the application of the “Rodchenkov Act”. The prosecutor’s office took advantage of the law by indicting Lira. The investigation indicated that the doctor supplied illegal drugs to at least two athletes, including the silver medalist at the 2008 Olympics.

The Rodchenkov Act was signed by former US President Donald Trump in 2020. The bill provides for criminal prosecution of cases of doping in competitions with American participation.

Grigory Rodchenkov is the former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory and an informant for the World Anti-Doping Agency. In 2015 he fled to the USA.
