Celtic beat Hearts to become Scottish champions for the 53rd time

Celtic mathematically secured the Scottish Championship title, the 53rd in their history, by beating Hearts of Midlothian 2-0 this Sunday, who played with ten during the second half.

With a 13-point advantage, Celtic can no longer be reached by Glasgow Rangers, champions in 2021 and the only team to break their hegemony in the last 12 years.

With 95 points, Celtic can still beat a record 106 points in a season. For that, he needs to win the four games he has left, starting with Rangers next Saturday and following with Saint-Mirren, Hibernian and Aberdeen.

The record for goals in a season (116) is also within reach, as the team has scored 105 goals so far.

Celtic can also win the Scottish Cup this season, where they will face Inverness in the final on June 3.

“I’m very proud of this group of players and the coaching staff. They managed to maintain an absolutely incredible level of demand throughout the season,” said coach Ange Postecoglou.

“Having already won last year, you always ask yourself as a coach if you can keep up the same appetite. But from day one the players gave everything and we have to congratulate each one of them,” added Postecoglou.
