Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, from Tottenhamwill not return to the lawns this season due to a thigh injury, announced the team’s interim coach, Ryan Mason, this Friday.
“Hugo [Lloris] it’s out of season. We got the results back, obviously it’s disappointing, but we already feared that. Initially we did some more tests and he will not play with us again this season,” Mason said at a press conference.
Lloris suffered the injury during Newcastle’s 6-1 thrashing of Tottenham on 23 April. Fraser Forster has been the club’s first choice goalkeeper in the absence of the number 1.
The French athlete had already missed a few games earlier in the season due to a knee injury. Now with a hamstring problem, Lloris’ future with the Spurs jersey is uncertain. Mason declined to go into detail about the matter and highlighted the importance of the experienced goalkeeper to the squad.
“I can’t talk about next season, but what I can say is that he has a very important role for us until the end of the season, he is our captain and we need him,” he commented.
With four games remaining in the Premier League, Tottenham are currently in seventh place, with 54 points, and are still struggling to reach the G5 and play in a continental tournament next season.
