American biathlete Claire Egan said she burst into tears due to the removal of the Russians
American biathlete, head of the commission of athletes of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Claire Egan told how the organization made a decision to remove the Russian team from the competition. Her words are quoted by Sport-Express.
“The discussion on this issue brought tears to my eyes. This is by far the worst decision I have ever had to make. Each of us wanted to avoid the ban of athletes in any way possible, ”Egan said. She explained that this decision was made due to the need to comply with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Earlier, Egan said that the commission conducted a survey in April among active athletes in order to find out their attitude towards the current ban on the participation of Russians and Belarusians in tournaments. “We received about 160 responses from representatives of 31 countries. Approximately 70 percent of athletes support the current suspension, ”she shared.
Russians and Belarusians did not participate in international tournaments in the 2022/2023 season by decision of the IBU. The order came into effect in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
