Former Atlético-MG coach defends Messi after protests from PSG fans: “They will never win anything”

The way fans Paris Saint Germain has treated Lionel Messi after the recent conflicts with the board have generated reactions in Argentine football. This Thursday, the former coach of the Atlético-MGAntonio ‘Turco’ Mohamed, came out in defense of the ace.

“The protests are a lack of respect for football. These embittered people have never won anything and will not win even if they buy the Eiffel Tower and put it in front of the goal. It is a total lack of respect. First for the person, for the family, for the kids. And to film this and post it publicly too. It’s disrespectful. Outrageous. Besides, they don’t even know how to protest. It looks like everything is organized and badly organized. So it’s a lack of respect”, said ‘Turco’ Mohamed, to the Argentine newspaper Olé.

The protest cited by the former coach of Atlético-MG took place last Tuesday, in front of the PSG headquarters, where fans cursed Lionel Messi and asked for his departure from the French club.

The revolt of the “ultras” arose after the Argentine traveled without authorization from Paris Saint-Germain to Saudi Arabia and missed a day of training. In addition, Messi’s resistance to not renewing his contract and PSG’s recent phase with defeats and eliminations irritated Parisian fans. The player was given a two-week ban by the club.

“I don’t even need to say that I’m totally against this situation and what Leo (Messi) has to do, I think he’s already doing it, with the little ones and his wife packing. The bags must already be packed. May fate choose where he goes he can be happy. Nothing else. I think it’s the best for him and for football. Seeing him happy on the pitch is all we want. He doesn’t look happy in Paris and he looks happy in the Argentina national team. It would be good for him find a place to play football where he can be happy every Sunday and also when he is called up for the national team”, added ‘Turco’ Mohamed, who coached Atlético-MG in 2022.

After leaving Galo, Antonio Mohamed arranged his return to Mexican football and has been in charge of Pumas since March of this year. Recently, the coach visited Messi in Paris to congratulate him on winning the Qatar World Cup.
