The head of the UFC called the condition for the fight between Usman and Chimaev

The head of the UFC said that the fight between Usman and Chimaev can only take place in middleweight

The head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, called the condition for the fight between the American mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Kamaru Usman and the Swede of Chechen origin Khamzat Chimaev. His words are quoted by MMA Fighting.

“What I don’t like about this fight and Usman challenging him is that Usman challenges him to a catchweight fight. I don’t like intermediate weight,” he said. White stressed that further discussion of the fight is only possible if the American agrees to move up from welterweight to middleweight.

On May 2, Usman challenged Chimaev. “We need to send someone to retire,” the Swede answered him.

Usman is a former UFC welterweight champion. He defended the title six times, after which he lost to Briton Leon Edwards twice in a row. In total, the American has 20 wins with three defeats.

Chimaev in his professional career had 12 fights without suffering a single defeat. In the last fight on September 10, 2022, he defeated Kevin Holland.
