The Ministry of Sports announced that they would finance Russian athletes in a neutral status
Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin spoke about financial assistance to Russian athletes who will compete in international tournaments in a neutral status. His words are quoted by TASS.
Matytsin said he would do everything necessary to ensure the participation of athletes in the competition. At the same time, he stressed that the Ministry of Sports will study the conditions to be determined by the federations. “We are carefully considering these issues from a legal and financial point of view,” the official added.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts. It was noted that teams from these countries cannot be considered as participants in the competition.
After that, a number of international federations allowed the Russians to compete. In particular, such a decision was made by the federations of judo, cycling and canoeing.
